Why might you need a survey?

Our experienced surveyors use advanced surveying techniques to mark out proposed investigation or monitoring points accurately. This helps to reduce delays and errors for positioning points, so your time on site can be more cost-effective and efficient.

We can record all ground investigation positions to ordnance survey coordinates so they can be referred to throughout the project once installed. This provides an accurate and reliable record of where investigations have taken place. Our precise surveying enables positions to be located or re-marked later on.

Our ground monitoring is achieved using a total station and highly accurate permanent ground markers (PGMs). They provide a permanent reference location for ongoing monitoring of a specific location. They are installed much deeper in the ground than a standard survey control and can be used for long periods.

They allow for repeatability of results as the northings, easting and height can be recorded each time at the agreed intervals (e.g. weekly, monthly, bimonthly, annually). You can compare the results from each interval and they will show changes down to the millimetre.

We install permanent markers on a building or structure for structural health monitoring. We then take measurements at regular intervals using a consistent methodology. The type of marker used depends on what needs to be monitored. For example, we use specialist monitors to measure changes in cracks in walls or nails, while targets can be used to monitor level changes.

Trial pits for a redevelopment

We visited the site of an urban redevelopment project that needed to dig multiple trial pits. This would enable them to expose the site’s old cabling and also inform the installation of new cabling. Our surveyors used our GPS surveying equipment to record the position of the 10 trial pits to OS coordinates.

Slope Monitoring

Our annual monitoring survey of landraise (waste site) slopes informs the geotechnical engineer’s slope stability assessment. This enables them to assess whether any soil movement on the surface and cracks in the slope indicate slope failure.

Level survey following remediation

Over 5 years we completed monthly monitoring of permanent ground markers at a remediated coal site. The site was planned for redevelopment and our monitoring would inform the land stability assessment.
